It could be that you are one of the many job seekers out there today. It could also be true that you’ve never tried to find work through a temp staffing agency because of something you heard that’s scared you away. What you need to know is that the beliefs many people think they know about these agencies… are false!
The only jobs you can get are going to be boring. – Wrong. Staffing agencies will find the right job for you, based on your interests and qualifications. And assignments can be short-term or long-term, so if a placement doesn’t work out, you’re not stuck there.
You can only get a temporary job, not a “real job.” – Nope! Agencies can find full-time work for you as well, though it may be only for a set period of time. However, many of the companies that hire from agencies will end up needing full-time staff after a time, and you will be perfectly primed to apply for those new full-time positions!
All the jobs will be low paying. – That is simply not so. These are professionals, working to find you a job that is commensurate with your education and experience. It’s true that many temps are entry-level, and in fact, 40% of employees looking for their first job, or are now re-entering the job market have done so by working with a staffing company. However, there are specialty firms that place professional, managerial and technical staffing candidates.
This may give you a better idea of what these agencies are capable of doing for you. In the end, it is up to you to decide if you want to try an agency or keep searching on your own. Hopefully, now you will be better prepared when you do.
